An important goal of the Alaska Farmers Market Association is increasing equity at the market. Everyone eats, and we hope that everyone eats fresh, Alaska Grown, local goods. To make that a reality, we all have a role to play in making local foods accessible to marginalized communities and underserved areas. There are many non-profit organizations doing amazing work on this in our state, as well as resources that we as a farmers market community can tap into and utilize to increase our reach. Something as simple as translating a few words on your outreach materials can go a long way in being inclusive and respectful of the array of cultures and ethnicities in our state, and reach people who may not otherwise feel as though the farmers market is for them.
